Top 5 ways to get links for your travel blog

Travel blogging is something that has become even more popular over the last few years, with the economy being so bad, we love reading about other people’s wonderful travelling adventures! If you own a travel blog and are stepping into the world of SEO and Social Media for the first time, there are a few simple ways and techniques to get you started.

Here I’ll run though the Top 5 ways to get people linking to your site (the better the links and the more you have – the better your SEO will be) – and as links are what we’re all after in this online world, pay attention!

1. Create an infographic.

Websites like 99designs are great for this. If you’re not particularly design-minded yourself you can commission freelance graphic designers to create one for you. It’s a great way of getting what you want quickly and with great quality too. Once it’s been created your infographic can then be shared here, there and everywhere. People are always on the look-out for interesting infographic to feature (and if someone features your infographic they’ll usually, if not always feature a link back to your site).

2. Allow guest bloggers.

Get other travel writers and bloggers to guest blog on your site. It’s a simple enough premise – once they’ve blogged on your site they’ll link over to it so their followers and readers can go have a look. It’s one of the easiest ways to acquire links.

3. Ask for links.

There’s nothing wrong with just asking. If you find a great travel blog you like the look of that you think you’d benefit from linking to each other – drop them an email and explain. Be friendly and nice – and usually people will be happy to oblige.

4. Create a YouTube Channel.

Creating a YouTube channel with some of your travel photos or videos on will be great for your PR, but it’ll also give you some great links back to your site. People love travel videos – so there’s always a demand, so keep it interesting and lively and people will share it!

5. Guest Post on other sites.

Guest post on other travel blogs and use your guest posts to link into your own site. People will love getting great content on their sites for free (which you’ll provide) and most are more than happy to provide a link back in return for this content.
