Climb the Harbour Bridge

Sydney Harbour Bridge is one of the great icons of the world. If you see a photo of it, you will recognize it immediately and, if you see it in real life, it doesn’t disappoint. While anyone can walk under the bridge, or walk along it, not many people can say that they have climbed over it.

The Harbour Bridge climb is one of the most popular attractions in Sydney as it offers an entirely fresh perspective of the city, with views you just won’t get from anywhere else in the city. And, even if you try to recreate the views, you won’t be able to do it with the sun on your face and the wind in your hair. There are different options available but a lot of people choose the three-hour climb, which takes you right to the summit of bridge, which is a staggering 134 meters over Sydney Harbour.

Of course, the climb itself is tough going and safety is of paramount importance, which is why climbers have to wear special suits and you aren’t allowed to take personal possessions with you. It can get quite windy on the top of the bridge and an errant mobile phone or camera could create havoc or cause serious injury if it was to blow out of your hand or your pocket. A climb on the bridge doesn’t come cheap but everyone who takes part says it’s well worth the money because it really is a unique experience that offers the chance to see the city from above. If you use daily deals to get discounts on other activities, or on meals out, then you can save some dollars and splash out on a Harbour Climb.

The full climb takes over three hours so it’s important to set aside time to do it – it’s not something you can slot in to your itinerary at the last minute. You should also book online in advance to make sure you get a space on your preferred day. Only a handful of climbers can go on the bridge at any one time, so this activity does get booked up quickly. There are options for a shorter climb but if this is likely to be your only visit to Sydney then you might as well spend the extra dollars and do the full climb to fully appreciate the experience.

Although it’s expensive, it works out cheaper than a helicopter ride or hang gliding, so, in effect it could be argued that this is one of the best deals Australia in terms of the actual experience and the value for money. It really a once-in-a-lifetime activity that simply can’t be repeated elsewhere and you can’t put a price on that. Nothing beats the uninterrupted views from the top of the bridge and the feeling of elation once you reach the summit. It will be one of the highlights (if not THE highlight) of your holiday and you’ll get to see Sydney from a completely new perspective.
