You can take a trip that is on your way to visit family, and extension of your visit to friends and family, or you can plan to take a little side vacation during your visit to the family stead.

Extra vacation time can be found by making a complete out of your visit back to your family. Instead of just traveling straight to your destination, you might consider flying to the nearest airport, renting a car, and taking a little road trip. The small destinations on the way to your family’s Christmas celebration could make for a very relaxing couple of days of vacation.

If you don’t want to take a road trip, you could simply fly into a city that is on your way to your final destination. You might be heading somewhere that is cold and snowy in the winter. Maybe you want to get a little sun and fun in before you have to huddle up by the fire every night. This could be as simple and purchasing a ticket to a midpoint destination and then traveling on the Christmas festivities after you have had your sun and fun.

You can take this a step farther by inviting the family to spend the Christmas holidays at an exotic location. This could be a place where the family is on the beach everyday, but this could also be a place that is cold and snowy in the winter. You might want to rent a whole cabin for the family or visit a very nice hotel in a big city where you can enjoy Christmas festivities everyday while you are having a little vacation with the family.

This allows you the opportunity to do something exciting on these days off that you take every year. Many people resign themselves to simply doing boring things for a few days, opening presents, and then coming home. If you want to add excitement to your trips, then you need to think outside the box and try new places that the whole family will enjoy.

Perhaps you could spend a couple days a theme park that is all decked out for the holidays. Not only will be able to have fun at the park, but you will also be able to take in the fantastic decorations that litter the great amusement parks around the world.

Plan ahead so that you can go anywhere you want for a family vacation that will happen over the Christmas holidays and be exciting for everyone. Take a road trip, fly to a separate destination, or just plan a little something before you make it to the family plot. Either way, it will be great fun.
