Staying in the UK

Anyone who has been on a foreign holiday in the last few years will know that it is becoming more and more expensive to travel overseas, what with the rising cost of fuel and airport taxes. There are also a lot of hassle factors involved with overseas holidays, such as flight delays, early check in times and luggage restrictions. It is therefore not a surprise to hear that more and more people are choosing for cheap holiday deals staying in the UK, and if you haven’t been on a UK break for a while you might well be missing out! Blue Chip Holidays, a holiday cottage agency based in the South West of England, look after a wide selection of quality self catering properties. All of the holiday accommodation from Blue Chip is rated four and five stars and is likely to exceed the standard of your traditional holiday apartment or hotel room as well as giving you a wonderful sense of freedom and privacy.

One of the plus points of holidaying in the UK is that you are much less limited when it comes to luggage which will be a great relief to families with young children or those who enjoy activities such as water sports or golf as you can pack up your own car with as much as you need and don’t have to worry about it reaching your destination in one piece like you would when travelling by plane. It’s also nice to be more in control of your journey, you can make as many pit stops as you need on the way which will hopefully result in the whole family feeling much more relaxed when you reach your destination.

Another benefit of a self catering cottage holiday is the sheer amount of options available when booking which enables you to make your holiday experience much more tailored to your needs. It doesn’t matter if you are looking to stay in the heart of a popular resort or in a tiny village in the middle of nowhere, the perfect property for you is out there. You can choose from options such as a private pool, a gorgeous garden or a spectacular sea, country or river view. If you are planning to take your holiday out of season you can pick from features such as an open fire, a wood burning stove or a four poster bed to make things extra cosy.

A good holiday cottage agency will help you narrow down the features which are most important to you, such as baby or pet friendly properties. They can also help you to plan that big family reunion or celebration by suggesting large houses or groups of properties that can be block booked to keep everyone together. Short breaks are another popular choice for those that want to escape for a few nights but don’t have the time or money for a whole week away. There has never been a better time to stay in the UK so start researching now and soon you could be experiencing the delights of a UK break first hand!

Having recently become a father my whole outlook on holidays has completely transformed! No more jetting off at the drop of a hat for me! Now, every action has to be meticulously thought out and planned. Even going to the shops has become a major expedition so going on holiday can be an absolute trauma! Catching a flight with two bored, recalcitrant and screaming kids is enough to make you want to turn around and go home.

Even when we arrive at our destination the trauma doesn’t end. I now find that where formerly I was easily entertained with a good walk, a good pint and some decent food now I have to do the entertaining and woe betide me if the entertainment I furnish is not up to scratch.

That’s why I have taken to exploring my home country, England. Of course we still have a small journey to make, but rarely very far and we can stop for a break and explore somewhere new on the way; make the journey part of the holiday. To ensure that our holiday is as peaceful as possible, we always pick somewhere that’s child friendly, like Prospect Holiday Home in Whitby, which is absolutely ideal for families and for children of all ages. The house is set up to cater for the whole family including babies and toddlers and Whitby itself offers a myriad of ways to entertain youngsters and oldsters alike.

So now we still get to go on holiday, though rarely to foreign climes. But that’s OK! England is a lovely country with so much on offer and staying in self-catering holiday homes is like taking the best bits of your own home with you and we get to forgo much of the hassle that comes with travelling abroad.
