A look at the best destinations for an island-hopping break

Are you considering going on an island-hopping break? If you aren’t, I definitely think you should be! By taking in a number of destinations in a single holiday, you will soak up a wide range of attractions and sights, leaving very little time for boredom to set in!

Although it is possible to arrange a multi-stop getaway yourself, it is much less of a hassle to book an island-hopping cruise. Doing so means you don’t have to worry about trying to plan an itinerary, as everything will be taken care of for you. You can find out more information about cruise operators that run such tours by clicking here, though I’ve set out some of the places you might want to think about visiting the below places.

Hawaii

The US state of Hawaii has long been a popular spot for an island cruise holiday, not only because all six of its isles feature golden beaches and tropical forests, but also as it benefits from great year-round weather. Come here during the region’s summer and you can expect the average temperature to be 29.4 degrees C, while it dips slightly to 25.6 degrees C in the winter.

As you’ll have probably guessed, Hawaii is a fantastic destination for sun seekers, though there are plenty of other things to see and do besides sunbathe. Head to Maui, for example, and you can connect with nature by going on a whale-watching expedition or taking a bird-spotting trip in the Haleakala National Park. In Lanai, meanwhile, you can take exciting four-wheel drive tours or play golf at the championship-quality Koele and Manele resorts.

French Polynesia

Elsewhere in the Pacific Ocean, French Polynesia is an astounding place for an island-hopping holiday. In fact, as the country consists of over 100 isles you won’t run out of places to see in a hurry.

Many travellers who take a tour of French Polynesia will spend time at Tahiti, which is the biggest island in the archipelago and is known as the queen of the Pacific. This is a great spot for sunbathing, namely as its coastline stretches for more than 70 miles encompassing everything from isolated golden beaches to expanses of black sand.

Sport lovers will be glad to know Tahiti is a top island for fishing and snorkelling, while the daily market at Papeete is a great place to pick up handmade crafts and other souvenirs.

Other islands you may want to take in on a cruise around French Polynesia include Rangiroa and Bora Bora. The former is home to a beautiful turquoise lagoon and is viewed as a top-class scuba diving destination, while the latter is widely regarded as one of the most romantic isles anywhere in the world.

Caribbean

Last, but by no means least, the Caribbean is a wonderful place for a multi-destination cruise break. While there are hundreds of islands in the region to choose from, Antigua is a particularly good place for sun lovers. With the isle home to 365 beaches, I’m sure you will find somewhere to enjoy a little sunbathing, with Dickenson Bay and Long Bay two of the most popular stretches.

Glittering beaches are also to be found in Barbados, though it’s also a good idea to check out the island’s rich heritage. Among the historic landmarks you’ll come across here is Drax Hall, which is one of the few remaining Jacobean mansions in the western world, and the 18th century Arlington House.

These are just a few of the best destinations for an island-hopping cruise, but if you’re looking to go away why not tell us where you’d like to go by leaving a comment below? We’d love to hear from you!
