A Rough Guide to Sofia

The name Sofia sounds so mysterious, sophisticated but definitely beautiful to me. I don’t know about you but most Sofias that I know are actually beautiful and surprisingly sophisticated women! And that’s exactly how I describe the biggest city that you can find in Bulgaria which is also named- SOFIA. If this is the first time that you have heard of this place then don’t feel bad because not a lot of people actually have any idea of this marvelous city.

It’s not like it’s New York or Paris that is overly known all over the world. This city seems to live up to her name of being mysterious and sophisticated. But I tell you that it also has the capability to astound and surprise you in so many ways involving its beauty. It’s for people who seek for adventure with class, style and finesse. Sofia is perfect for the young professionals, as you’ll see a lot of that demographic visiting this city.

It’s not advisable to roam around this Sofia by car because it’s really ideal for walking. You can walk for miles and not sweat at all since the climate here is also pretty cool. Get to witness their east-meets-west ambiance with those Ottoman mosques and churches that are onion-domed. As you walk, you’ll also get to take advantage of some good old-fashion shopping spree inside their glammed malls. And if you wonder where to stay in this sophisticated city, don’t worry because I’m sure that they have a lot of 5-star hotels to accommodate you.

The night is very much alive in this town as well with their bars and clubs that will never disappoint you if you’re looking for some really spontaneous evening. This is the city where you can actually experience the best bars that Bulgaria can offer you. So trade your boring night of just staying inside the hotel and go out and have some fun meeting new people in this amazing country. This is the perfect place to seize the moment and just have fun.

Unlike New York or Paris where a grand metropolis is always in the agenda of the places to see in a typical city, Sofia doesn’t really have that. Like I said when I opened this article, this city is actually about class and elegance; having said that will involve you discovering more of their culture through their museums and art galleries. If you have a strong passion for both performing and visual arts, then Sofia will no doubt quench your thirst for the finest things that you’re looking for involving those subjects.

Another thing that will surprise you when you’re in a typical city is the presence of the color green and which Sofia actually possesses. It is considered a green city with its massive parkland and hiking paths towards Mt. Vitosha. Clearly, Sofia is far from the stereotypical skyscraper filled city and with alleys packed with bars all in neon lights. I always want the idea of learning new things about a place and this city has definitely taught me a lot when it comes to the element of surprise that doesn’t apply to the place itself but even to the people around.

The people here are quite reserved but they’re friendly and I wouldn’t say they’re such snobs who wouldn’t care for anyone at all. But like what their city is, these people will surely give you a lot of surprises. I like everything that I see except for the presence of unfortunate people begging on the streets. Most of them happen to be pensioners and physically challenged people who are broke. But I supposed it’s inevitable not to see those kinds of scenarios in any country in the world. But the great thing about their locals is that they continue to hope for an even better future for their country.

Sofia will definitely intrigue you in so many ways and the only way to release that eager beaver in you is to actually be in this place and experience everything that it has to offer you. From their culture to their arts, I believe that your trip here is going to be so worth it that you would even want to go back for more.
