Devon Dreams

Working long hours, taking care of family members (even if they live at a different address), and just the humdrum routine of your daily life can leave you feeling mentally and emotionally rundown.

One tried and tested way to deal with this is to go away, have a change of scene for a few days, and you come back feeling refreshed with a new lease of life.

So, when deciding on a short break, what are the conditions you look for?  Do you want flexibility, freedom, and relaxation?  Because these are just some of the benefits of going on a self-catering break.

Compared to staying in a hotel, self catering allows you the flexibility of either eating out or home cooking, depending on your mood, you can come and go at all hours, not be restricted by staff working hours.

Where to go?  One of the most popular resorts in the UK is Devon.  Dartmouth Cottages, in the county of Devon, offer high quality properties to choose from.  Whether you want to stay in the town or country, you’ll be spoilt for choice.  You’ll benefit from the fresh sea-breeze that is the envy of inland dwellers, as it’s known to be healthy and good for your lungs to breath in.

If you have small and energetic children, or pets you don’t want to leave behind, you’ll benefit most from self catering, as you won’t feel you’re imposing your offspring or your pets on other holiday makers who may have come away for a quiet getaway.

[box type=”info”]Do check when booking though.  Although most cottages in Dartmouth allow pets, not all of them do.  You don’t want to turn up with small kids and a dog only to find out on arrival that they’re a pet-free property.  So, always check when you book.[/box]

Once there, there’s plenty to keep you occupied.  Check out the farms and zoos that kids (and adults) will love.  For grown -ups and older children, there are museums and National Trust properties to look around.  If you are eating out and want to check out the best places, by all means use the tourist pamphlets available, but also, if possible, ask the local residents if they can recommend a restaurant or cafe.  Quite often, you’ll find personal recommendations are the best way of judging any business.

One thing you can be sure of after staying in Dartmouth, and that’s rich and intense memories for all the family to look back on for years to come.
