Walking on the Wild Side in Africa

Walking safaris in big game territory are incredibly thrilling due to the danger you openly put yourself in. You will walk with an expert guide, a gun and a back up guide, all of whom will be experts on the bush and wildlife – they will be able to get you out of trouble, but more importantly will be able to walk you through bush teeming with dangerous game safely and calmly. This in itself is quite magical and you will never put so much faith in one person again. Walking safari guides are unsurprisingly some of the most experienced men of the bush in all of Africa and there is no one that knows more about wildlife.

It is however, very dangerous and this why guests love it – you get to experience the bush naturally without the sounds of an engine, and can also get closer to big game peacefully and in a relaxed manner, watching them from a distance go about their daily business. Walking safaris are ideal for those who are a little more active, since they provide well needed exercise in between the most delicious food (the food on safari is always excellent).

Sitting in a game drive vehicle doesn’t cut it for most people any more – they always feel the need to walk and we don’t blame them. There is always so much to see and by getting into the bush on foot you can rest assured that you’ll see it from every angle, as well as seeing the smaller things which make up the ecosystem.

Most luxury safari camps and lodges now offer walking safaris simply because they’re so brilliant, many of them will take you on a bush walk followed by a surprise bush breakfast or delicious cold sundowner waiting for you in a secluded spot. There is something often other worldly about walking through the bush and we’d like everyone who visits Africa to experience it.
